Have you ever noticed that you have a favorite of everything? Like a favorite knife in the kitchen or a favorite yard tool in your shed?

Wholesale nursery trees are no different – some of them always turn out to be your favorites. Among wholesale nursery trees, hollies are my favorites.

What usually distinguishes our favorites is a combination of function and form.

Function: Hollies are reliable, like the hardy Nellie R. Stevens. Hollies are tough, relatively drought resistant and rarely have to be replaced. That’s important, since you probably guarantee the survival of everything you install.
Hollies won’t cost you time and money.

Function: Hollies do their job, like the sturdy Emily Brunner. If your customer wants a screen, he wants a screen all year long. Hollies answer the call as an evergreen screen that stays dense and gives the perfect visual barrier in a landscape.
The right holly satisfies your customer.

Form: Hollies are adaptable, like the versatile Conaf Oakleaf. When a plan calls for a hedge, hollies readily grow together. They will quickly fill in any gaps, and respond beautifully to shearing. When a more formal plan calls for specimen trees, hollies can take a tight form and precision pruning.
Hollies bring a landscaping plan together.

Form: Hollies are always beautiful, like the classic Nellie R. Stevens. Whether it’s the delicate leaf of the Foster Holly or the bold look of a Lusterleaf latifolia, hollies are a beautiful addition to any home or building. The lustrous, dense leaves of hollies make them the wholesale nursery trees that improve every landscaping job.
All hollies look great.

So the next time you’re working with your wholesale tree nursery and looking at a landscaping plan, make sure it includes hollies. Their function and form will make you glad you did.

Wholesale tree nurseries supply most of the trees that get planted in the United States today. Yet most people are only vaguely familiar with the nursery industry. Let’s find out more about wholesale trees nurseries, the companies that grow our trees.

Where do the trees come from? Most nurseries get young trees, called “liners”, from professional growers who grow the liners from seed or grafts.

What does the nursery do? The nursery plants the liners and grows them into larger trees over a period of several years. Most trees sold from wholesale tree nurseries are between 2 and 5 years old. The nursery takes care to prune each tree so that it grows into a desirable shape.

Who buys the trees?	A wholesale tree nurseries sells trees to a variety of different types of customers, including commercial landscape installers, retail nurseries and municipalities.

Who chooses the trees? The customer will specify several things: the species of tree, the variety of that species, and the size of tree. The nursery’s staff goes into their fields and selects the trees that fit those requirements. Sometimes the customer visits the nursery and picks out the trees.

How do you dig up a whole tree? The nursery’s field crew will dig up each tree, using a tree spade. The tree spade is mounted to a loader, which then removes the tree and its new “rootball” from the ground. This rootball is lowered into a heavy wire basket lined with burlap. The crew cinches the wire basket tightly around the rootball to hold the dirt in place around the tree’s roots. A piece of strong nylon webbing, like car seatbelt material, is then attached. Now the tree can be easily moved by simply hooking onto the loop in the webbing.

What next? The trees are then placed on an open wagon and transported to the nursery’s “holding yard.” Here the newly-dug trees will be kept until the entire order has been assembled for loading onto a freight truck. Once loaded, the trees are covered by a tarpaulin and ready to go to the jobsite.

How are the trees delivered? The freight truck delivers the trees to the jobsite at a scheduled time and date. The landscaper will use a loader to unload the truck and to lower the trees into their planting holes. They will be planted and irrigated as soon as possible to ensure a successful transplanting.

That’s how wholesale tree nurseries work. And they’re working every day to bring the United States the trees it needs.

At Sugar Hill Nurseries, we wholesale trees. That’s it. Nothing else.

We don’t have annuals, bedding plants, or grasses. We don’t dig on contract, hire out our pruning crew, or sell anything at retail. We are focused on one thing.
We grow, dig and sell wholesale trees. And we do it better than anyone else.

Here’s how:

We have wonderful soil for trees. Our Georgia Piedmont soils are loamy clays, which are just perfect for growing trees and digging a tight rootball. These soils also hold moisture well, ensuring that our trees get to the jobsite in great shape, ready to plant.

Sugar Hill trees come from superior plant stock. Our general manager, Roland Leblanc, buys directly from several liner producers, located all over the country, picking the varieties they grow best. He chooses the cultivars that your customer wants.

Jamie Arrington, our field manager, and his crew take great care to plant them in a well-prepared soil bed and at the appropriate depth. Trees are staked as necessary to make sure that your customer will end up with a perfect tree.

All of our trees enjoy regular doses of fertilizer and micronutrients. All of our trees are under drip irrigation. We manage a full pesticide and herbicide program, so your customer will end up with a perfect tree.

When you place an order, our seasoned, professional crew produces a tight rootball that’s easy to handle at the jobsite The tree is perfectly centered in the rootball, and the ball is the right size for that caliper of tree of that species. As a premier wholesale tree nursery, Sugar Hill makes sure that your customer gets what’s expected.

We also have an irrigated, covered holding shed for summer digging. We can send you trees in the summer that have acclimated in a shady, damp shed on cool concrete. Those are trees that are ready to take a truck ride and still arrive at a summertime jobsite looking lush and healthy.

Denise Johnston, our salesperson, coordinates with you to get the trees you need. She also arranges shipping to suit your customer’s needs. Sugar Hill makes sure that your customer gets the order on time.

At Sugar Hill Nurseries, we wholesale trees. And that’s it.
Our success is founded on providing trees that make money for you. So here’s the fundamental math that helps you make more money. Welcome to Tree Wholesalers Math 101.

Lesson 1: Variety x Size = more money for You

We grow more than 60 varieties of trees. We grow and harvest trees from a 2-inch caliper up to a 7-inch caliper. You can fill out a truck load at Sugar Hill with the varieties and sizes of trees you need.
Our varieties multiplied by our sizes equals more money for you because you minimize your freight costs.

Lesson 2: Quality + experience = more money for You

As a premier wholesale tree nursery, Sugar Hill buys the finest quality liners from the best suppliers in the industry. We plant those liners properly and nurture them with a proven regimen of horticultural care. We prune them to form. That produces quality trees.
We are experienced tree wholesalers, so we understand what your customer needs. We use our experience to tag trees that meet those needs. Then it’s all delivered to your customer with quality and uniformity, in a tight rootball.
Our quality plus our experience equals more money for you because your customer is happy to pay your price for the trees that he or she received.

Lesson 3: Reliability – hassle = more money for You

Sugar Hill is known for reliability. We are the “can do” tree wholesalers. If you are our customer, then we are your partner. You can rely on us to meet your expectations on quality, uniformity, and timeliness.
We subtract the hassle from buying trees.
Our reliability minus the hassle equals more money for you because your customer is delighted with the reliable service and will order from you again.

Lesson 4: Sugar Hill + you = __________________ for You
